Quit Smoking don't put it off! Smoking
is the most preventable cause of death, yet it is responsible
for about 420,000 US deaths a year. It is a major cause
of heart disease and cancer of the lungs, mouth pharynx,
larynx esophagus, pancreas, uterus, and bladder.
Not only is cancer a real risk (almost a
sure bet) but smoking also causes other diseases. For
example, smokers are twice as likely to die from heart
attacks than non-smokers. Smoking also causes a risk of
the narrowing of the blood vessels in the legs and arms.
There are additional risks for women such
as increased heart attacks while taking birth control.
Women who smoke have a greater chance of miscarriage and
delivering low-birth babies.
There are adverse social side effects as
well. Several states have enacted laws that prohibit smoking
in all public places. It’s not too glamorous sitting
or standing outside a restaurant smoking a cigarette.
Smoking causes premature wrinkling, bad
breathe, stained teeth, stained fingers, foul smelling
clothes and foul smelling environments.
Regardless of your age or sex smoking is deadly and leads
to numerous diseases and health risks. Studies show that
males lose an average of 13.2 years of their lives and
females lose an average of 14.5 years of their lives because
of smoking.
